Forceps
We can easily distinguish between various forceps, as there is somehow a difference in their structure.
All forceps have the following three general parts: A beak, a hinge, and a handle
1. Beak; the upper part of a forceps. The sharp and the pointed part. Every forceps contains two beaks.
2. Hinge; It is the middle part between the beak and handle of a forceps. It is the part that joins the beak and the handle and helps to manage the beak opening and closing.
3. Handle; The part of a force through which we hold the forceps. Each forcep has 2 handles.
Difference between the upper and lower forceps
We can find a difference between the upper and lower forceps.
Upper forceps;
Above forceps are the upper forces. In the upper forceps, the beak is always parallel to the handle.
Lower forceps;
And in lower forceps, the beak is at a right angle to the handle.is shown in the picture above is the lower forceps.
How to distinguish between each forceps'
upper forceps
Let's start with the upper forceps. While the closing of a force the space between the forceps increases from the incisors to the molar forceps. The space between the beaks of central incisor force is little as compared to the space of the molar forceps and lateral incisors. The molar forceps are much different from the incisors as they have a beak where one side of the beak is having a prominence and the other side of the beak is smooth. This is because in molars we have 3 roots; mesiobuccal, maxillary, and palatal. The molar forceps are much similar to each other. If the pointed side of the beak is on the left side, then the forceps are of the first quadrant. If it is on the right side then it belongs to the second quadrant. The third molar forceps are quite different and typical as its beak is long because of excess to the third molars. The size of molar forceps is larger as a large surface area of the beak is required to extract the molars. so the handle size increases too when we move from incisors to molars.
Lower forceps
The difference between the incisor and pre-molar forceps is that the incisor beak opening is minimum and the pre-molar beak opening is maximum. In molars, both sides of beaks have prominent beaks while in the other forceps the surfaces of beaks are smooth. a Cow horn is used for the extraction of grossly located teeth. As its structure is similar to a cow horn so it is known as a cow horn forcep.
