When scaling and polishing are required?

Due to poor oral hygiene patients have plaque, stains, and calculus on their teeth which cannot be removed through normal brushing.
To removes stains and calculus, scaling is required.
Next to that, after and before orthodontic treatment scaling is necessary.
 For prostho treatment, also scaling must be done. 
scaling is also required for dental surgical treatments.

Procedure of Scaling

Before starting the procedure of scaling, the Handpiece(scaler) must be autoclaved. After that, You need to view the whole gums and teeth condition and the stains and calculus deposits on them. Use a suction tip to suck water coming out from the scaler. Slight bleeding during scaling is normal. Start dislodging the stones attaches to the patient's teeth.
Let the patient spit during the scaling procedure .you can start from any tooth and start cleansing the teeth one by one.
It would be better if you sit between 9 and 10.
For sides of the teeth that you cannot see properly, use a mirror to view the tooth and clean accordingly.
After scaling polishing must be done for further smoothing of teeth. Initially, we paste the teeth with the help of a brush then run the brush and polish them one by one. if there is a bleeding issue, you need to give an appointment for the next day.


Prescription after scaling and polishing

Avoid hot, cold, sour, and sweet foods for the next few days.
avoid food items like popcorns, chips, seeds, etc for 2-3days.
For sensitivity issues, Sensodyne can be used.
Rinse your mouth with warm saline for 2-3 days.
Regular tow times brush can be continued.
Avoid smoking for the next 24-48Hours.

To remove calculus and stains from the teeth, an ultrasonic scaler is required. It vibrates with the optimum frequency between 18 kilohertz and 32 kilohertz.
