Gingivitis and its symptoms, diagnosis, treatment
Gingivitis;
Gingiva refers to gums and is refers to inflammation.
so inflammation of the gums is simply known as Gingivitis.
If gingivitis is not treated on time, it develops into a more severe disease, which is known as periodontitis.
let's observe the structure of teeth. In the mouth, the bone beneath the bottom of the row of teeth is the mandible. And the bone above the top of a row of teeth is the maxilla. Both bones have an alveolus or socket for each tooth. The socket is lined on the inside by a periodontal ligament.
Gingiva or Gums(a layer of soft supportive tissue), when started to get detached from the cementum from the top side because plaque/calculus made place between them from the top side.
what are the main causes of gingivitis?
1: Plaque;
It leads to Gingivitis. Poor oral hygiene encourages plaque that forms on your teeth. when harmful bacteria found in the mouth get in contact with the starch and sugar found in our diet, they start making plaque.
2:Plaque develops into calculus
when plaque stays for a longer period, it turns into calculus which is much harder and attracts more bacteria, and causes irritation along the gumline. To remove calculus professional cleansing means scaling will be required.
3:smoking
4:poor oral hygiene
5:poor diet
6:diabetes
7:Gingiva becomes inflamed
when calculus and plaque remain on your teeth for a longer period, it causes inflammation, and gums start to bleed badly and swell
8:Viral infections can also cause gingivitis
9:Growth of fungal infections by antibiotics or change in overall health
